The RoboForm Master Password cannot be removed, but you can reduce the number of times you need to enter it. By selecting the “Do not ask for Master Password” option, the only time you'll need to enter your Master Password is if you manually log out or if you've checked the automatic logout option under the security settings.
With the Auto-Logout option selected, even if you've checked the "Don't ask for Master Password" box, you'll be prompted to enter your Master Password each time you lock your workstation or when your device is in sleep/hibernation/screensaver mode.
To turn off one or both of these features, follow the instructions below.
NOTE: Minimizing the number of times you're required to enter your Master Password can lead to accidental forgetfulness.
Browser Extension
1) Open your browser and click the RoboForm extension icon. Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the extension's menu. Then, select "Settings" from the menu.
2) Select "Security" from the column on the left. Under “Authentication method” check the “Don’t ask for Master Password” box.
3) You will be prompted to confirm this action by inputting your Master Password once more. After you have entered your Master Password and clicked the green "Continue" button, RoboForm will save the changes to your Authentication Method.
Windows:
To turn off “Always ask for Master Password” follow these steps:
1) Click the Show Hidden icons [ ^ ] icon near the time. Click the RoboForm Taskbar icon. Then, select “Options” from the menu.
2) Select the “Security” tab from the column on the left. Under “Authentication method” select the “Don’t ask for Master Password” option.
Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the window to save your changes.
To turn off Automatic Logout follow these steps:
1) Click the Show Hidden icons [ ^ ] icon near the time. Click the RoboForm Taskbar icon. Then, select “Options” from the menu.
2) Select the “Security” tab from the column on the left. Under “Automatic Logout” uncheck the “Auto-Logout on User Switch or Lock Workstation” option.
3) You will receive a warning message from RoboForm telling you that we strongly recommend that you keep this option turned on. Click the “OK” button.
4) Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the window to save your changes.
NOTE: If you already have “Don’t ask for Master Password” checked, you will be unable to edit your Automatic Logout settings.
To edit them, check the “Always ask for Master Password” box. After editing, you can re-check the “Don’t ask for Master Password" box.
Mac:
To turn off “Always ask for Master Password” follow these steps:
1) Click the RoboForm icon in the top right of your screen on the Menu Bar. Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner. Then, select "Settings" from the menu.
2) Select the “Security” tab from the column on the left. Under “Unlocking” check the “Don’t ask for Master Password” box.
Click “OK” at the bottom right of the preferences window to save your changes.
To turn off Automatic Logout follow these steps:
1) Click the RoboForm icon in the top right of your screen on the Menu Bar. Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner. Then, select "Settings" from the menu.
2) Select the “Security” tab from the column on the left. Under “Auto-Logout” uncheck the box labeled “Auto-Logout on User Switch or Lock Workstation”
3) You will receive a warning message from RoboForm telling you that we strongly recommend that you keep this option turned on. Click the “OK” button.
4) Click “OK” at the bottom right of the preferences window to save your changes.
NOTE: If you already have “Don’t ask for Master Password” checked, you will be unable to edit your Automatic Logout settings.
To edit them, uncheck the “Don’t ask for Master Password” box. After editing, you can re-check the “Don’t ask for Master Password" box.
